Testimony of my Haiti mission trip

"Speak Lord, for Your servant is listening." - 1 Samuel 3:9
I always felt that the Lord was calling me to do mission work, so when I heard about the Haiti trip, I prayed, and the Lord answered. I was soon off to the poorest country in our hemisphere.
Our mission team did much preparation work for our trip. We had no idea what we would see or encounter there. We went with open hearts and a desire to be in active solidarity with our Haitian brothers and sisters.
We brought shoes and clothes, but there just wasn't enough, and it was with mixed feelings that we distributed everything we brought. The children that got shoes were so grateful and would give us hugs and kisses, but it was disappointing and frustrating when we could not fit some of them and have to turn them away without.
Food distribution was a fulfilling job; rice and beans were supplied to fill their hunger.
One of our missionaries did a presentation on oral hygiene and the people were happy and anxious to learn how to care for both themselves and their children. We distributed toothbrushes and dental floss, and they were so grateful for this extra knowledge. The knowledge of something so basic and simple that we here in the states just take for granted.
We kept busy painting and teaching and just having fun with these loving children of God.
I have seen poverty many times and places before, but I had never seen it up close and so personal. I have a new attitude about material things in my life. "Less is more" is how I now think about and value things.
This is a nation with virtually nothing...I will return and continue to serve as Jesus did and asked us to do the same. "...Amen, I say to you, whatever you did for one of these least brothers of mine, you did for me." - Matthew 25:40 "" jfjfjss
